Africans should learn to recognize their true friends!
Les Africains devraient apprendre à reconnaître leurs vrais amis !
L'Inde n'est pas un pays, mais un continent. Le seul qui ait donné - ou plutôt transmis - son nom à un océan ! Et pas qu'à un océan : en Amérique, des populations entières ont été baptisées "indiennes" à la suite d'un quiproquo. Là encore, les Indiens n'y sont pour rien mais le fait est là : Navajos, Sioux, Commanches et autres habitants de l'Amazonie, du Honduras ou du Guatemala seront encore appelés longtemps des Amérindiens ! Et les Caraïbes sont encore appelés West Indies (Indes Occidentales) dans le monde anglo-saxon.
De tous les continents, l'Inde est le plus proche de l'Afrique à bien des égards. Plus proche même que les Antilles ou l'Amérique latine ? Assurément oui. Et en ce qui me concerne, la chose paraît évidente.
On découvre, par exemple, que les femmes indiennes ont en commun avec les Africaines du Nord la pratique des mains décorées de henné, mais il n'y a pas que ça. On trouve sur les deux continents des problèmes souvent similaires : les bidonvilles, les enfants qui pataugent dans les ordures, certaines traditions populaires souvent difficiles à contrecarrer.
Par ailleurs, les Africains et de nombreux Indiens ignorent souvent que nombre des sujets Indiens à la peau sombre ont des origines africaines, leurs ancêtres esclaves ayant souvent transité par Zanzibar. Mais ce n'est pas là le plus important, qui est que l'Inde est avec l'Afrique la région du monde où le polythéisme a le mieux résisté à la dictature des monothéismes.
Alors, bien évidemment, le polythéisme africain est bien plus diffus et surtout animiste, les divinités étant plus souvent des esprits ayant le don d'ubiquité car présents dans toute la nature environnante, que Mircea Eliade assimilait au "cosmos". Tout le contraire de l'Inde, où le panthéon est bien plus baroque et plus extravagant. Le fait est que le polythéisme a presque disparu de tous les continents, sauf en Afrique et en Inde !
Il reste que ces deux continents sont baignés par un même océan, ce qui met l'Inde à portée de pirogue, ou presque de l'Afrique australe, où l'on croise de nombreux hindous ou tamouls. Par ailleurs, un Indien célèbre a séjourné en Afrique du Sud durant une partie de sa carrière : Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
Bref, l'Afrique et l'Inde ont des milliers de raisons pour combler le petit fossé géographique qui les sépare.
Un ami c'est quelqu'un dont vous savez qu'il ou elle ne tentera jamais de vous agresser et vous couvrir de bombes. Mais compte tenu de tout ce que j'ai expliqué plus haut, l'Inde et l'Afrique sont plus que de simples amis : ce sont de véritables frères et sœurs!
India is not a country, but a continent. The only one which has given - or rather dedicated – its name to an ocean! And there is not only an ocean: in America, entire populations have been named "Indian" as a result of a misunderstanding. Again, the natives of India have nothing to do with that, but the fact is that American subjects as the Navajos, Sioux, Comanches and other inhabitants of the Amazon, Honduras or Guatemala are also called as the people of India, while the Caribbean Isles are also known as 'West Indies'.
Among all continents, India is the closest to Africa in many ways. Even nearer to Africa as the Caribbean or Latin America? Yes indeed! And for me, the thing seems obvious.
Let's just realize that Indian women have in common with their North African sisters the decoration of hands with henna, but there is not just that. On both continents we find many similar problems: slums, children wading in mountains of garbage, some old traditions often difficult to counteract and to harmonize with the modern world.
Moreover, many Africans and Indians are often unaware of the fact that many dark skinned Indians have an African origin, their ancestors having been sold as slaves at Zanzibar. But this is just one argument among others, the most important one being that India is with Africa the region where polytheism has shown the strongest resistance to the dictatorship of monotheism.
And, of course, the African polytheism is more diffuse and mostly animist, with not real gods, but a lot of ubiquitous spirits living among the whole surrounding nature, what Mircea Eliade called the "cosmos". To the opposite, India has got quite an amazing baroque and much more extravagant Pantheon. The fact is that polytheism has almost disappeared from all continents except Africa and India!
In addition, both continents are bathed by the same ocean, putting India as to say within range from Southern Africa, where one crosses many Hindus and Tamils. Moreover, a famous Indian stayed in South Africa for part of his young career: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
In short, Africa and India have thousands of reasons to fill the small gap that separates them geographically.
A friend is the one from whom you know that he or she would never try to aggress you nor to spray bombs over you. And considering all what I have explained above, India and Africa are more than simple friends: true brothers and sisters!
Oh, by the way, we are going to boycott Bolloré (a big friend of French president Sarkozy!)
